Fire kills man and injures three in Lompoc home
A fire at 1120 W Lime Ave in Lompoc destroyed the residence Saturday morning. Melvin Johannes Holmans, 57, died in the kitchen area while Monica McCall, 85, and Molly Holmans, 53, were rescued and treated for shock and smoke inhalation. Capt Charles Johnson was injured aiding rescue. Fire and police investigate the cause.

Young couple killed in crash of truck, train
A Lompoc couple died Saturday when their pickup was struck by a Southern Pacific freight train two miles south of Surf Beach. Sheri J. Hampton 16 and Gary A. Kraft 18 of 732 North G St Apt D were pronounced dead at the scene. The Air Force is investigating.
