Organ Re elected to Lead United Fund for Third Year

William H. Organ was reelected to head the United Fund for a third year at the annual meeting in the Public Library. Bruce Sharpe and M. A. Siminski were named first and second vice presidents, with Mrs Myra Wapner as secretary treasurer Folders James Croker Mrs Sara Glaze Rev Richard Harris and Organ were reelected as directors for three years New directors for three year terms include Frank Brehony Dr George Camp Mrs Andrew Masciak Mrs Jane Moore and the Rev Robert B Montgomery Organ outlined current and future campaign goals and proposed a broader fund drive staffing plan for 14 fund recipients.

Seven Killed In Taft Rest Home Fire

Flames swept through the Desert Air Rest Home No. 2 in Taft at about 1 a.m. killing seven patients. Seven others, including caretakers Mr. and Mrs. Jack Armstrong, escaped. one person was injured. The home housed 12 patients and the Armstrongs.

Five year old Lompoc girl injured in crosswalk collision

A five year old girl Georgia Centino of 719 N Third St suffered a fractured leg when struck by a car driven by Allen Eugene Poats of 309 N E St as she walked across Third Street near Pine Avenue. She was listed in good condition at Lompoc Hospital.

Smaller ranches eyed for agricultural preserves

The County Agricultural Preserve Advisory Committee will study allowing smaller farm units to enter preserves. The Board of Supervisors approved a Clyde motion to restudy criteria for prime and non prime land amid protests over rising assessments from Carpinteria Valley landowners. The discussion covered minimum acreages and possible new eligible unit definitions, while HUD certification and local planning issues were also noted.
