Kevin Fickel, 15, ate 135 prunes at Fort Madison Community High School lunch with classmates donating prunes and the administration extending lunch. He says the 135 topped Edward Baxter's 130 prunes world record and earned a celebration.

California Democrats push $30 million methadone program

Assembly Democrats led by John Vasconcellos propose a four bill package to expand methadone treatment for heroin addicts statewide. The plan aims to enroll more users, fund half first year costs with general funds and shutdowns, and reduce crime and costs from heroin use. Interstate and local figures estimate 25 000 to 35 000 addicts in California with 85 percent success elsewhere.

Man reports theft attempt after armored car bag drops

Dominic Lopez described seeing a large canvas bag fall from an armored truck in Los Angeles. He honked as the truck sped away and a man retrieving the bag fled back to the vehicle, saying thanks before driving off. No other crews reported such an incident.
