The Lompoc Parks and Recreation Commission prepared for budget approval, hearing five reports and forming a committee led by Mike Siminski to study wind damage to street trees. Jim Olivera reported 75 damaged trees in 1969 versus 136 in 1973, linking it to lighter trimming after 1969.

California Man Arrested On Santa Clara Warrant In Gaviota

A San Jose man, Charles Patrick Jackson Jr., 21, was arrested on Highway 101 at Gaviota on a Santa Clara warrant charging failing to appear, carrying a concealed weapon and receiving stolen property. A 12 gauge shotgun and a 32 caliber handgun were seized. bail set at 3200.

Protesters threaten more force at Cranston office

Angry disabled veterans in a sit in at Senator Alan Cranston's Los Angeles office threaten to deploy more forceful tactics if the VA does not meet their demands for better care and increased benefits. Ron Kovic, a 27 year old disabled ex Marine, and about a dozen veterans in wheelchairs began the protest amid a Senate hearing on VA health services.

Memorial services for Thomas McCormick Waller

Thomas McCormick Waller 19 died Monday in San Francisco. Born in Ohio died in Lompoc where he studied at Lompoc High. Memorial rites set for Saturday at 4 p m at Valley of the Flowers United Church of Christ in Vandenberg Village. Donations may be given to youth scholarships via church or YMCA.
