Douglas Soper dies after brief illness in Lompoc
Funeral services for Douglas Eugene Soper will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Lompoc with military honors at Fort Bliss National Cemetery El Paso Texas. The 58 year old civil engineer and longtime city employee died in Lompoc Hospital after a brief illness. He served since 1963 in various city posts. He was born July 23 1911 in Colorado City Texas and had a long career including Army service from 1942 to 1947. He is survived by his wife two sons a daughter and a brother. Contributions may go to the Grinnell College King Scholarship Fund.

State weighs temporary sales tax rise for water project
