Lompoc Names New Fire Chief Douglas Spickard to Take Office
Douglas Verne Spickard will assume the Lompoc fire chief position on February 26, announced by Dustin Griffith assistant city administrator. Spickard, 33, comes from Huntington Beach Fire Department as division chief and previously served as Pasadena Fire Department captain. He is married with two children and holds an associate arts degree with pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. His fire service career began in July 1957.

Last American Killed in Vietnam Buried at Arlington
Col William B Nolde 43 the last American killed before the cease fire was honored with a funeral mass at Arlington National Cemetery. Chaplain Roy V Peters praised Nolde for serving and faith in life and freedom. Nolde died at An Loc after 11 hours before the cease fire while serving as a South Vietnamese adviser on his third Vietnam tour. His remains were flown from Mt. Pleasant Michigan to Washington for the burial. Nolde, deeply religious, had helped rebuild a church near his base and wrote that he prayed for both sides. He and his wife Joyce 42 had five children aged 12 to 19.
