County building activity to rise in Goleta Valley

County Building Official Ray Nokes said construction valuation may rise 18 percent in 1971 from 1970 with most growth in commercial projects. Housing activity is expected to pick up after recent prime lending rate cuts, aided by adequate mortgage money from savings and loan institutions. In Goleta Valley developers plan homesites on El Capitan Ranch and a large residential complex, plus new restaurants and an industrial park. A 200 unit mobile home project is under way.

Modernized Minuteman II Launched From Western Range

A Minuteman II launched last night by a SAC crew from Malmstrom AFB Montana at 9 20 p m over the Western Test range. Police reported minor injuries to David Wayne Toupal 19 of Vandenberg AFB after his motorcycle hit a mobile home in a park. Inocento Aguilar Diaz declined medical aid. A collision near H Street and North Avenue left Anderson Peterson 16 and Emma Skov 56 with moderate damage to their cars. The Loyal Order of Moose No 1036 will host a Beef Barbecue and Dance at the Moose Home 921 W Laurel Saturday 7 to 9 p.m. That event includes a dance to a Surprise band with a 3 per person donation for members and guests.

Buellton advances Andersen’s Vacation Land a 228 space RV resort to connect with Andersen’s Animal Kingdom motel and Pea Soup Restaurant. Eaves Objects to Grand Jury Audit Findings

Veteran County Auditor Albert Eaves Jr. disputes Grand Jury findings on accounting in his office. He says he will press objections in a report to the Board of Supervisors and did not agree with audit committee or jury auditors on needed reforms. He returned from a three week stay in St. Louis and was unavailable for further comment.

Patrol sets around-the-clock beach security by UCSB police

UCSB police launch 24 hour auto patrol along campus and Isla Vista beaches with sheriff cooperation. Chief Derry Bowles notes new white jeep will aid rescues and deter overnight sleeping under county ordinance. Patrol aims to keep vehicles off dunes at Devereux preserve and reduce beach violence.
