Reagan tax relief plan promises home owner savings nationwide

Gov. Ronald Reagan's property tax revision would lower overall taxes for most homeowners by raising the exemption from 750 to 1000 and cutting assessed value by 20 percent after the exemption. A statewide 2.05 per hundred collected for school aid will be redistributed by student count, reducing welfare rates and boosting district funding in many areas. The plan yields estimated savings of 111.50 for a 20000 home in Antioch and 159 for a 40000 home in Laguna Beach, with varying local tax-rate adjustments per county.
