NBA Players Win Settlement in Antitrust Case Over Liberation
The NBA owners agreed to an out of court settlement of the Oscar Robertson antitrust suit, signaling a shift toward player freedom. Commissioner Larry OBrien said the league remains opposed to merging with the ABA and faces a separate ABA lawsuit. The proposed 10-year deal includes ending the reserve clause, a right of first refusal compensation system, and a new college draft rule granting a second chance to sign or face another draft.
