Rain Ends Worst Drought in More Than 20 Years
Rain from an Arctic storm brought relief to the Lompoc and Santa Ynez valleys and across California. The brief storm ended over twenty years of drought with about one third inch to nearly an inch measured locally. The event tested the county flood control telemetry system monitoring the Santa Ynez River, with readings across Lompoc Miguelito Canyon Gibraltar Lake Cachuma and Juncal reservoirs. Temperatures cooled with highs in the 50s and mountain lows in the 20s, and forecasters predicted more showers tonight and Friday though officials warned the rain remains insufficient to solve the drought.

Milk truck and bus collision near Buellton injures none
A milk truck and an Allan Hancock University bus with eight aboard collided on Highway 101 two miles south of Buellton. Bus driver Robert McCutcheon from Santa Maria swerved on wet pavement and blocked lanes. The truck’s two trailers detached and overturned, one hit the bus. The crash occurred at 3:15 p.m. and traffic was held for three hours.
