Gasoline Price Hike Scheduled to Counter Supply Cuts

Energy Chief William E. Simon announced a one cent per gallon price increase to help station operators cope with a 20 percent drop in fuel supplies. The move, effective January, follows a shift of price control authority to the Federal Energy Office as part of Nixon era measures. Simon cited concerns over stockpiling and pledged enforcement of fuel allocation rules while announcing the plan on NBC and at a news conference.

Congress plans to contract out base support work

Congressman Jerome R. Waldie claims an unpublished OMB plan would privatize up to one third of civil service jobs on military bases, shifting work to a single contractor per base and affecting 70 Air Force bases. Lompoc police sign three year pact with city

Lompoc police officers along with dispatcher jailers and sergeants ratified a three year contract with the city to expire in 1976. The pact includes 5 percent raises in 1974 and 3.5 percent in November, with automatic CPI adjustments in years two and three. A uniform allowance of 120 dollars for dispatchers and jailers was provided and a sick leave incentive study planned.

Centennial Ball kicks off Lompoc's 100th birthday year

The Lompoc Centennial Ball begins at 9 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building for about 500 ticketed guests. The sold out event features optional costumes with prizes, Lamplighters music, decorations by the Junior Alpha Club, and a finale by Mrs. Niki Leach with Lompoc for Me. Committee chair Wilma Thomas and co chair June Patton lead city staff and Junior Alpha Club members in organizing the celebration.

County Supervisors Pay Boost May Get Federal OK

County Auditor-Controller Paul Floyd says the 69 percent pay boost for the Board of Supervisors, approved Dec. 3, may win approval from the Cost of Living Council after precedent from Los Angeles city. He provides data on prior raises and workload, noting the $24 000 salary would cut about $20 000 from the general fund if allowed, with a full yearly cost under one cent on the tax rate.
