Gasoline Price Hike Scheduled to Counter Supply Cuts
Energy Chief William E. Simon announced a one cent per gallon price increase to help station operators cope with a 20 percent drop in fuel supplies. The move, effective January, follows a shift of price control authority to the Federal Energy Office as part of Nixon era measures. Simon cited concerns over stockpiling and pledged enforcement of fuel allocation rules while announcing the plan on NBC and at a news conference.
