New Generation Emerges of the American Hobo
Berkeley researchers document a young transient population moving between college towns. The new hobo generation, often in their early 20s and sometimes women, panhandles for food and wine, hitchhikes, and rooms on fringes of campuses. They are jobless, undereducated, and largely rootless, with limited hope for the future.

Oral history tapes proposed at SMU for 1993
Dr. Ron Davis of Southern Methodist University plans a national oral history depository for American popular culture. The project would tape entertainers from vaudeville to radio and archive them with personal access and possible 10 to 20 year or death censorship options. Federal funding of about 75000 dollars is sought to cover travel and setup. The archive would exclude jazz and film figures already studied by UCLA and Tulane.
