Lompoc Council to Address Nuisance and Election

The Lompoc City Council will hold a public hearing on 12 nuisance areas and announce a March 5 municipal election for three council seats. Incumbents Mayor E C Stevens and Sol Lefkowitz lead a filed slate with others seeking nomination by December 27.

Getty heir refuses ear reconstruction after kidnapping

The grandson of J Paul Getty, freed in Rome, refused plastic surgery to replace his missing ear. He said he would keep the natural scar to remember the attack, while doctors noted he was sedated at Villa Carla clinic after five months in captivity. He told police the kidnapers knocked him with a club before severing the ear.

Analysis suggests Nixon travel by train to Florida would use about 3,500 gallons of diesel for 1,178 miles with two engines, versus 4,000 gallons consumed by the presidential jet for the two hour flight.

Slater Opposes MacGillivray Subvention Change

County Supervisor James M. Slater warned that an assembly measure co authored by W Don MacGillivray could cost Santa Barbara Goleta taxpayers about one million dollars over six to seven years. He said the loss applies to any area that annexes or incorporates and noted Goleta Valley may seek incorporation while Santa Barbara considers annexation. Slater urged that MacGillivray had not notified his office or local groups before introducing the legislation.

Frost to study nude bathing survey implication

Supervisor Frank J. Frost reviews a Montecito Union School PTA survey of 330 parents. Results show two to one support for a separate nude beach, but nearly three to one favor a restrictive ordinance to declare public nude bathing a nuisance, and five to one say they would not use a nudist beach.

Conservation convention attendees announced for Sacramento trip

Max Wilson president of Lompoc Resource Conservation District will attend the 28th annual convention in Sacramento January 7 to 11 with directors Darrel Schuyler and William Laranjo. Gov Ronald Reagan is slated to appear and Robert C Baum of the National Association of Resource Conservation Districts will give the keynote. The ladies auxiliary will meet during the event.
