Weather fair over nation reports two deaths in Utah plane crash

Nixon lights Yule tree at White House ceremony
President Nixon attended the annual Christmas tree lighting near the White House as a choir sang Peace on Earth. Demonstrators shouted peace chants while park police arrested seven for disorderly conduct before the event. Members of Lompoc Scottish Rite and Masonic guests will honor Solomon Jones Hap Ward at a banquet in the Masonic Temple Thursday evening. Nearly 200 expected at the 7 oclock barbecue with Charles Lewis as arrangements chairman. Ward known as Mr Mason of the Lompoc area was named a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason by the Supreme Council and invested last week in Los Angeles. He has been active in the northern Santa Barbara County Scottish Rite association. Ralph Hines and Delmer May, 33rd degree Masons from Santa Barbara, will speak at the banquet tomorrow night.

Vandenberg AFB will host 200 needy children from Lompo c Santa Maria Guadalupe Nipomo and Arroyo Grande for the 11th annual Big Brother Christmas party on December 22. The event runs 11 p.m. to finish in the main hangar with gifts from Santa, meals, games, and entertainment by base personnel, clowns, a magician and a Hancock College band, plus a turkey dinner for each family.
