Strong winds ease as storm system nears Southern California
Strong winds that buffeted Southern California before dawn tapered off by midmorning as an advancing storm system moved in. The National Weather Service warned the skies would stay stormy through the weekend with a 10 to 30 percent rain chance and no white Christmas likely in local mountains. Temperatures ranged from the low 30s to the 50s with gusty winds in resort areas. Interstate 5 traffic was advised against due to wind hazards and deserts saw dirt and sand reducing visibility.
