Three Man County Appeals Board Set for Air Pollution Rules

A three member County Air Pollution Control District Appeals Board was created by the Board of Supervisors to hear cases under new air pollution rules. The panel will include Osborne T. Brazelton Daniel J. Kirk and Allan Eschenroeder with terms from one to three years. Compensation would be at least $25 per meeting plus mileage. Alternate members discussed for Dec 27.

County Board OKs PG&E Funded Undergrounding in Santa Maria

County supervisors on Monday approved using funds provided by Pacific Gas and Electric Co. to underground electrical facilities in the Santa Maria area. The project covers the block south of Cook Street between McClellan and Miller Streets, under a California Public Utilities Commission program. The county and city of Santa Maria will share the allocation, with the city to install two light standards and lighting along the Cook and Miller Street parkway, one near the Cook Miller intersection.

County supervisors set public hearing on Scenic Corridor plan

County supervisors will hold a public hearing on January 3 at 2 p.m. to consider amending the General Plan to apply a Scenic Corridor designation to State Route 1 between Las Cruces and Lompoc, with state approval to follow county action. The State highway advisory committee has endorsed the proposal. The Santa Ynez Citizens Committee requested permission to install a decorative Christmas tree at Sagunto and Edison Streets, Santa Ynez, and this was approved by the Board of Supervisors. The ALTURA Club of Santa Maria will host its annual Christmas party and dinner for mentally retarded children at the Santa Maria club, Friday at noon, chaired by Hazel Lantis, with Ruth Beggs overseeing special education. Santa Claus will attend with gifts. A Jalama Road mother and her nine-year-old son were injured when their car veered off Jalama Road and hit an embankment. Clementina Cargasacchi, 44, broke an arm and sustained a facial cut. Peter, 9, had bruises and abrasions. The accident occurred at 3:45 p.m. 1,700 feet west of Highway 1. A Thorad Agena satellite launch from Vandenberg AFB occurred at 4:12 a.m. Central Coast Exchangers will host real estate counselors at the Holiday Inn in Santa Maria Friday for a session from 1 to 5 p.m. Pete Weber has chaired the group for a year, with Leslie Yeager as secretary-treasurer. An evening Santa Maria Style Barbecue will follow at 7 p.m. involving invited guests.

Planners defer license revocation for auto yard in Lompoc

Lompoc Planning Commission delayed revoking Roy Valesquez’s auto wrecking yard license at 333 N.
