House to Approve Compromise Tax Bill Amid Labor Opposition
The House is expected to pass a $15.7 billion three year tax cut package despite AFL-CIO opposition calling it a raid on the treasury. The bill includes a $750 personal exemption for 1972 income, a higher next year standard deduction, restoration of a 7 percent investment tax credit, repeal of auto and light truck taxes, exporter deferral, babysitter deduction, and a $1 tax designation for a presidential election fund. Nixon warned he would veto if campaign financing provision stayed.

Draft loophole closed again in southern California
A federal judge ruled there is no 90 day draft loophole in the law and inductions in seven southern California counties could resume. The Selective Service said drafting would not start until January or February at earliest, delaying about 2,200 inductions scheduled for December. The dispute centered on a 1947 provision later carried into the Nixon era. The ACLU argued the 90 day window should apply.
