Radar advances on Oahu track VAFB missile launches
A new AN-FPQ-14 tracking radar atop Kaena Point, Oahu, joins SAMTEC operations to monitor ballistic test launches from Vandenberg AFB. Built to track missiles or satellites with high accuracy, it uses Keplerian trajectory updates and star and satellite calibration. The installation required a reinforced concrete base to withstand 60 mph winds, and will handle over 40 launches yearly.
