Lockheed to lay off 160 at VAFB under new contract
Lockheed will reduce its workforce at Vandenberg Air Force Base by 160 to about 600, a 21 per cent cut. Spokesman Tom Brockway said most displaced workers will be moved to other Lockheed locations though relocation is difficult. The cuts come with an 18 month contract starting October 1, and Lockheed previously peaked at 1,600 in 1961. Over 90 percent of displaced workers have found positions elsewhere in the company.
