Off road motorcycle enforcement pilot eyed by county

The Board of Supervisors may approve a trial in which uniformed sheriff's deputies ride county motorcycles to patrol trails and enforce trespassing and noise rules. Officials say cars are unsuitable for steep trails and aim to start in north and south areas with strongest problems. They seek media help to publicize the effort and warn riders and parents.

Funeral services for Bertha Stitch in Plainview Minnesota

Bertha Louise Stitch 87 died yesterday at Lompoc District Hospital. Born 1885 in Minnesota she moved to Lompoc eight months ago and resided at 300 Amherst Place. Survivors include three sons Elvis Wray Burl all of Lompoc a daughter Olive Koepsell of New Mexico two brothers John Schmidt Minnesota George Schmidt North Hollywood two sisters Susan Ford Maybelle Buckingham both Minnesota ten grandchildren and one great grandchild Local arrangements are with McPeek Family Mortuary.

County to fund homemaker program despite potential costs

Welfare Director Arthur W. Nelson urges contracted homemaker and personal services for 700 welfare recipients under a state mandated program starting October. County budget shows first year cost around 850000, later reduced to 425000 if federal rules remain unchanged, prompting a request to state legislators and Governor Reagan for supporting bills. Pioneer Day winners in Lom celebrate window display and costume contest

Winners announced after judging at a Legion Auxiliary breakfast in the Elks Lodge. Fashions at the Inn won window display top honors with an old spinning wheel display. Stalker's Men's Wear and J. C. Penneys followed. Ruth Dutra and John Martin led costumed prizes, with Donna Linneman and David Hedman as best couple. Moore's Department Store supplied the best group. Laura Henderson noted as oldest in Santa Rosa School District and Ann Hoppenworth as oldest attendee at 83.
