Regan Sentenced to Concurrent Prison Terms in Santa Barbara Bribery Case
Phil Regan 67, former singer and actor, was sentenced by Superior Judge Arden T. Jensen to concurrent terms of one to 14 years and one to five years for bribery of a County supervisor. Probation was denied despite a state report. bail of 10,000 was continued and Jensen may reconsider sentence within four months. Regan, allied with high-profile politicians, sought to influence UC Santa Barbara professor Frank Frost on the Tyrolian Village project in Goleta Valley. the supervisors later rejected the rezoning 3-2.

Air Force C141 crashes near Madrid. 25 feared dead
A US Air Force C141 Starlifter with 25 aboard crashed Tuesday night about 40 miles from Madrid en route from Athens to Torrejon. The Air Force gave no casualty details. Europa Press later said all 25 were killed. The craft carried eight crew, 17 passengers, and 8.8 tons of cargo. The crash site was between Huera and Pastrana, east of the base. Passengers included families of Air Force personnel returning to the United States. An investigation will be conducted by a board of officers.
