County to hire firm for 410000 General Plan project

County Administrative Officer Raymond D. Johnson reports a second recommendation to authorize a 410000 contract with Livingston and Blayney of San Francisco to revise the General Plan. Two other firms have been invited to respond, with Eckbo Dean Williams expected Sept 15. An additional 50000 for planning staff is also sought to meet a December 31 1973 deadline.

Sirica refuses combine suits over Watergate tapes

Chief Judge John J. Sirica declined to merge the Senate Watergate committee case with Archibald Cox’s suit to access Nixon’s Watergate tapes. He denied the Aug. 22 merger request and left the matter to separate rulings, as White House opposition and Cox’s objections persisted. The White House said Nixon would appeal Sirica’s ruling on tapes and private review for grand jury consideration.
