Death bed nominees rejected in California Senate panel
In Sacramento the Senate Rules Committee, dominated by Democrats, rejected four Reagan Republican nominees to key state commissions as last minute appointments. The panel also failed to advance John E. Bowe to a new term on the California Youth Authority board. Some Republicans vow to seek full Senate votes despite the unlikely precedent. Other nominees were confirmed or recommended for continued service on the Workmen’s Compensation Appeals Board and related panels.
