A mayor and school officials greeted new teachers as the Lompoc Valley Courtesy Education Committee hosted a luncheon with remarks by committee chairman Dr. M. B. Kranseler and participants including Lompoc Mayor E. C. Stevens Col. Don Slate and four of the five trustees. The event preceded a brief school board meeting approving a 5.5 percent salary and fringe benefit increase.

The State Water Resources Control Board rejected the Montecito County Water Districts water right application for water from the Santa Ynez River watershed.
