Montecito Association urges oil spill funds for SB Carpinteria area
The Montecito Protective and Improvement Association asks the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors to allocate a major portion of the multi million dollar oil spill settlement to Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, Summerland, and nearby Carpinteria Valley areas. President Peter Bakewell notes copies of the letter were sent to State Senator Omer Rains and Assemblyman W Don MacGillivray, among others. The settlement payees include the state, Santa Barbara County and Carpinteria. payment is due by early September with a seven percent interest option if late. Supervisors filed Bakewell’s letter and GO O has requested county funds to support ongoing anti oil development efforts in the Santa Barbara Channel.
