Lompoc Babe Ruth All Stars Reach World Semifinals

Lompoc finishes third in the World Series after a 5-0 loss to Mt. Healthy Ohio in the semifinals. Neahring threw a three hitter and Mt. Healthy will meet Puerto Nuevo in the title round as Lompoc heads home by bus after 21 playoff games. Drake starred with a .500 average and six stolen bases.

Pappas wins 16th as Cubs push into second place

Milt Pappas, 32, pitched a five hit shutout to lift the Chicago Cubs to a 3-0 win over the Atlanta Braves. The victory moved Chicago to second in the NL East, six games behind Pittsburgh. Billy Williams supplied a homer and a triple in support as Pappas vows to chase a 17th win this season. Dock Ellis earned his 18th win for the Pirates and Dave Giusti collected his 26th save in a 11-hit attack led by Roberto Clemente.

Harmon Killebrew, now in the 500 home run club, slugged two homers driving in five runs to lift the Minnesota Twins over the Cleveland Indians 8 4. Caravan to Welcome Babe Ruth All-Stars to Lompoc

A caravan will form on Highway 246 three miles east of Lompoc to escort the Babe Ruth All-Stars into town. Fans are invited to decorate cars and homes for the team returning from a World Series finish in Albuquerque with a post arrival ceremony at the Lompoc Shopping Center.

Sands of LA dominate Lions Inn in Lompoc softball opener

Sands of LA crushed Lions Inn af Lompoc 17 to 3 as Marion Dunn pitched seven hits allowed. Kris Koeny and Marylin White doubled for Sands while Peggy Green homered and tripled for Lions Inn. Travelers beat Hard 10s 7 to 1 with Jo Ann Long three-hitting and Carol Saragossi 2 for 2 with a double. Greene of Sylmar shut out Momnus 5–0 on Sandy Nelson one-hit pitching. San Mercurio piled two triples for the Gang. Ojai Roadrunners edged J P Schleppers 1–0 as Shirley Bocher homered and Barbara Roe had two hits. Second round games start at JM and Thompson Parks.
