Tropical Storm Doria Slams the East Coast
Tropical storm Doria moved inland from the Atlantic coast causing heavy rains and flash floods across New Jersey and New York. The storm’s winds weakened after crossing land, flooding streets and knocking out power while a Brooklyn street collapsed a gas and water main. Sheriff’s association sues county over wage ordinance
The Sheriff’s Benefit and Relief Association sued the county Friday challenging ordinance 2205 on 1971-72 wage levels. Mandamus actions were filed against the county five supervisors and Administrative Officer Johnson with a show cause hearing set Sept. 16 in Santa Barbara. The suit seeks to amend the ordinance to match a memorandum of understanding from Sept 18 that followed a one day sheriff’s deputies strike. It alleges the study backing new pay levels used only five of eight counties and that no raises were offered to deputies while higher ranks saw gains.
