Oil Price Ceiling Might Rise Under Ford Plan

The Los Angeles Times reports the Ford administration weighs lifting the $5.25 per barrel ceiling on old domestic crude to spur production and reduce oil imports. A Times source says the idea, in a working paper, could raise gasoline costs by about 4 to 5 cents per gallon if crude prices move toward foreign levels. Gerald Parsky confirms an existing proposal but notes it has not reached Cabinet or the President.

Senate Defeats Immunity Bill for Traffic Tickets

In Sacramento a Senate Judiciary Committee vote of 6 to 4 defeated AB3229 a bill sponsored by Assemblyman John J. Miller to grant legislators immunity from routine traffic tickets. Miller not present at the hearing noted his driving record includes multiple speeding convictions this year.

Legion reaffirms opposition to general amnesty for draft evaders

The American Legion closed its 56th annual convention reaffirming its stance against general amnesty for Vietnam era draft evaders and deserters. A Legion spokesman said the policy aligns with President Ford’s conditional amnesty concept and supports individual trials under military justice codes.

Muharem Kurbegovic, the so called alphabet bomber, remains silent after arrest on 12 felony counts including three murders from the August 6 Los Angeles airport bombing. He pleaded innocent at arraignment while facing possible death penalty under a new California law.
