Santa Barbara County plans a 13.8 cent boost to the 1974-75 property tax levy raising the rate to $2.77 per $100 assessed value. It aims to generate $20.3 million for the general fund to balance the budget, with a large portion funded by higher valuations from oil facilities and added fund balances.
Three escaped Colorado inmates launched a 150 mile spree, killing T. L. Baker and wounding others, before hiding in a mesquite-choked prairie near Stephenville. Police aided by Rangers hunted the danger trio Dalton Williams Jerry Ulmer and Richard Magnum who carried a death list of supporters.
