Au brey Greer led City of Lompoc Employes to a 16 11 victory over Latter Day Saints, going three for four with three RBIs and batting .666. Jim Brightwell earned the win after allowing 12 hits, while Calvary Baptist forfeited Foursquare Church in Closed League action. In Open League, the Dubs defeated the Village 6 2 as Bill Fagan pitched a six hitter and added two singles. League standings show Jaycees atop Closed League with 5 1, Johns Manville 4 2, Calvary Baptist 3 3, LDS 0 6, Foursquare 0 6.

Unitas Leads Colts Past Bills as Oilers Top Bears

No racing at S M tonight at Santa Maria Speedway

The Santa Maria track is dark tonight and A C R E stock cars and jalopies take the weekend off to prepare for the Labor Day weekend race on Saturday Aug 30. Twenty fast stock cars race a 50 lap main. jalopies run 20 car field for 30 laps on the quarter mile oval. With Labor Day weekend ahead, five more races will crown the 1969 season for local racers.

Retriever trials set for base at Vandenberg AFB

Vandenberg AFB hosts the Southern California Retriever Club field trials September 1 to 21 at Mod Three Lake and surrounding areas. More than 75 Chesapeake Bay, Golden and Labrador retrievers compete for trophies and points toward the National Amateur and Open Retriever Field Championships. Four stakes include amateur all age, derby, open, and qualifying for young dogs with amateur or professional handlers.

Santa Maria California three golfers were tied for first at five under par 139 after 36 holes in the 50th California State Open. Terry Small Jack Laxsome and Charles Leider shared the lead, while others including George McCallister Ralph Coker Stu Morgan Jack Fleck and Jerry Barber chased. A total of 120 pros and 32 amateurs advance to Saturday's third round.

Maryland apologizes for alleged NCAA recruitment violations

The 118 member NCAA Policy Council censured the University of Maryland for an athletic recruiter also working as a professional scout and an ad in the Washington Post promoting four area high school athletes. The university apologized and said steps are in place to prevent recurrence. The council also urged policies on wining and dining prospective players.

Rams test running depth vs Chiefs in exhibition clash

Los Angeles Rams plan to start rookie Larry Smith at running back with Les Josephson at fullback as they gauge running depth against Kansas City.
