Merced Pro Wins Cal Open By Two Strokes
Ron Hoyt from Merced Country Club shot four under par 68 at Santa Maria to capture the California State Open with a four day total of 278 and $5 000 prize. Greg Edwards finished runner up at 280. Pete Ancona of San Jose won the amateur title in a playoff with Matt Ellison. Ancona defending amateur champion staged the playoff on the first extra hole.
