Salmon fishing hit or miss along Port San Luis coast

Last week 67 salmon were reeled from 92 boats at Port San Luis as calm seas proved deceptive with lumpy conditions. Bottom fishing held steady around Pecho Rock while albacore were scarce due to heavy seas. Santa Barbara and Ventura regions reported mixed capes with bass and bonito, and authorities seized 450 pounds of over limit rock fish at Channel Islands Harbor.

Hayden held on rape charge in Illinois

St Louis Cardinals running back Leo Hayden, 25, was charged with rape by McLean County Sheriff’s Department in Bloomington. He is held on a 5000 dollar bond and arraignment is set for September 4 in McLean County Circuit Court.

Pony All-Stars Triumph in Tune-Up Win Over Downey

The Lompoc Yearlings All-Stars beat the Downey All-Stars 3-1 in Oxnard in a tune up for next week's SMAF tourney in Bell Gardens. Downey, defending Yearling champs, exited in seven innings as Terri Wallace drove in two runs with a double. Kathy Gibbons earned the win in relief of Janet Jeffers, with Connie Steinbach, Lauren Morehart, and Adelita Florez adding base hits. The SMAF tournament runs Monday through Friday.
