July price rise modest as freeze expires
Washington reports the Consumer Price Index up only 0.2 percent in July the smallest monthly increase this year with the freeze ending contributing to the slowdown. Food costs rose 0.8 percent while nonfood commodities fell 0.2 percent and services rose 0.2 percent. The Bureau of Labor Statistics notes data collection began after June 13 when President Nixon imposed the price freeze.
