Definition of family postponed by Lompoc City Council

The Lompoc City Council postponed action on amending the zoning ordinance defining family to study the proposal further. Councilman Jacoby pressed for delay while Councilman Speight urged immediate action. Planning Director Sherrod explained the intent to curb large groups of unrelated persons in single dwellings, citing a South U Street case with up to 12 men. The definition proposed relates to blood, marriage, or adoption, or up to five unrelated persons in a single housekeeping unit. Jacoby questioned the five person limit, noting potential impacts on airline crews or student groups. Mayor pro-tem Charlotte Benton and Councilman Art Scott joined in placing the item on the next agenda. Mayor MacClure was absent.
