A two day Community Organizations and Leadership Conference at UC Santa Barbara aimed to create a coordinated link between the Center for Chicano Studies and Tri Counties Chicano groups. Attendees formed an ad hoc committee to study needs and push for community based Chicano Studies classes.

Chavez ends six day fast after health concerns

Cesar Chavez, 43, ends a six day fast with an outdoor mass of thanksgiving after doctors warned of serious harm. He weighed 162 pounds dropping to 145, following a dispute over bargaining agents between his union UFCO and the Teamsters. He was admitted to a religious retreat for rest.

Agribusiness Program Debuts at Allan Hancock College This Fall

Allan Hancock College introduces a new Agribusiness curriculum with four majors Agricultural Sales and Services Landscape Design and Maintenance Agricultural Inspection Services and Farm Machinery Repair. Fall courses start September 8 including Introduction to Agribusiness Agronomy Plant Identification and Animal Science with daytime and evening options. The Legislature opened a final week in what could be the longest session in a century. With about 300 bills pending in the Senate, observers doubted a Friday 5 pm deadline could be met. Senate leader Jack Schrage urged a weekend session, but Assembly Speaker opposition sparked criticism.

Glider narrowly lands near Duke of Bedford’s preserve
