Coast to coast bicycle trio rides for nine weeks

Three MIT and Drexel graduates Joseph Anthony Jim Hoburg and Don Dudley began a cross country cycling trip on June 9, traveling about 100 miles daily from Margate to Philadelphia Pittsburgh Cincinnati St Louis across Kansas Pueblo Denver Laramie and California before reaching Lompoc and Santa Barbara en route back to the East Coast. They relied on friendly locals for lodging and ate five to six meals daily, with Anthony tossing his bike into the ocean at Stinson Beach to celebrate.

Lompoc Council Nears Final Budget for 1971 72

Vandenberg Village Boy Killed in Auto Crash

A 16 year old Vandenberg Village youth died at Goleta Valley Community Hospital from injuries after a highway crash near Jalama Road. David Lee Polizo of Constellation Road died at 4 45 a m eight hours after the wreck. Cheryl Jaeger and Diane Robinson, passengers, sustained minor injuries. Funeral services were pending at McPeek Mortuary.

Santa Barbara Names New County Planning Director Johnson

The Board of Supervisors appointed Britt A. Johnson 46 as Santa Barbara County Planning Director succeeding resigning Herbert H. Diverbiss. Johnson, planning commission secretary, had been with the department since 1957 and was recommended by the County Planning Commission after interviews with four top applicants. School officials praised a surplus equipment auction that drew 365 people Saturday and raised about 2000 dollars, and announced registration would begin tomorrow.
