No Current Plans to Relocate SAMSO to Vandenberg AFB
Deputy Secretary of Defense David Packard said there are no current plans to move the Space and Missile Systems Organization SAMSO to Vandenberg AFB. He noted an in-house AFSC feasibility study on possible relocation is underway and no decisions have been made. SAMSO sits at Los Angeles AFS and reports to Andrews AFB with the Space and Missile Test Center at Vandenberg AFB reporting to SAMSO. Lt. Gen. Samuel Phillips commands SAMSO.

Chicago police search for dozens of snipers
In Chicago the South Side was searched by more than 100 officers after reports of snipers in a dozen locations. Ten arrests were made and two officers were wounded, one critically, as a police helicopter and canine unit hunted suspects near the Southmoor Hotel now held by youths.
