Unusual drop seen in Santa Barbara utility roll

The 1975 76 Santa Barbara County utilities roll shows an unexplained drop in assessed valuations, totaling 60 338 415 dollars, down 119 515 from last year. County Assessor William H. Cook said state authorities set valuations and preliminary figures could change by September 1, with negligible impact on the tax rate. Speculation points to depreciation and little new construction, with firms General Telephone Southern Counties Gas Pacific Gas and Electric and Southern Pacific named among involved companies.
