Richard L. Anderson aged 33, a subcontractor for Grefco Inc., died after earth collapsed onto a ship loader at the San Julian Ranch diatomaceous earth quarry. He was pinned in the loader cab and died en route to Lompoc District Hospital. The accident near Highway 1, south of Lompoc, prompted an investigation by the state Dept. of Industrial Safety. The Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for a Montessori Nursery School at Peace Lutheran Church complex 1000 West Ocean Ave in an R-1 zone. The project will serve about 30 children ages three to six using existing church facilities. A lot split for LOM 205P owned by Emmett Schuyler was approved with a required adequate electrical easement. The commission also approved a fence modification for Leal and Mrs. Cason at 924 West Olive Ave permitting a six foot fence four feet in from the current line. A September 8 public hearing will decide actions on Bantz Mobile Home Sales at 600 North H Street for ARB noncompliance and trash/landscaping issues with a suggested $750 bond.
