Goldwater Hatfield push to abandon draft in defense bill

Extortion Plot Targets Alaska to Seattle Flight 722
Western Airlines paid a $25,000 ransom after a caller claimed a pressure-sensitive bomb aboard flight 722 from Anchorage to Seattle. The extortionist demanded cash in small bills and promised to reveal the bomb’s location and disarm method, but no bomb was found as the Boeing 720 landed safely at Seattle. Passengers, including Vancouver area youths, were kept calm while authorities and FBI investigated and the caller made three prepayment calls.
