Village General Plan sparks fight over recreation land

Vic Inouye Lompoc civic leader dies at 56

S V Vic Inouye a Lompoc civic leader died suddenly while golfing in Costa Mesa at a Japanese Senior Citizens event. He was born July 16 1915 in San Jose and with wife Toshi owned Hinode Market for over 20 years. He served in many community roles and sits on multiple boards. He is survived by wife, a son Dennis of Santa Maria a daughter Lorraine Omura of Whittier two grandchildren Yvonne Lance Inouye and three sisters in Japan.

Bombers Strike DMZ And Laos Border Against North Vietnamese

UPI reports B52 bombers ranged over Laos and the DMZ in massive strikes on North Vietnamese units suspected to be ready to push into South Vietnam as U.S. withdraws. Phantom jets hit an anti aircraft battery that fired on a U.S. recon plane as officials warn of potential offensives near the DMZ. U.S. troop strength fell to 224,400, the lowest in five and a half years, amid withdrawals.

County employee groups may unite to oppose low wage plan

County employees contemplate forming a joint organization to challenge the proposed 1971 72 salary recommendations. The plan involves the Sheriff Relief and Benefit Assn AFL-CIO Social Workers Union and County Government Attorney's Assn with Pay levels tied to eight county data and a July 1 data cutoff. The Sheriff’s Association threatens a breach of agreement suit while talks with the administration stall.

India and Soviet Union sign 20 year friendship treaty

New Delhi reports the Soviet Union and India sign a 20 year friendship and cooperation treaty. The pact vows consultation on measures if either is attacked and aims to stabilize peace in the region. Indian Foreign Minister Swaran Singh says it targets no third country.

First deer poaching report near Lompoc during season opener

With deer season opening Friday Lompoc Police logged the first poaching report. Game warden Harold Lantis called in deputies to help search Garcia Ranch at Jalama Beach Rd for evidence of poaching.
