Planning Commission action on several Goleta area development items
The County Planning Commission Wednesday dropped the TV actor James Arness subdivision request amid an unfavorable staff report. It granted Martha Linden an appeal overturning a denial of a lot split in Lompoc, finding a 4.5 acre parcel usable despite a 10 acre minimum. It approved rezoning for 2.3 acres on Encina Rd to Professional Institutional, allowed a temporary trailer home during construction in Santa Ynez, and approved a temporary trailer dwelling in Orcutt. It continued one week Beulah Barling’s rezoning for Turnpike Rd area from PI to DR 20 to permit an 18 unit complex, with staff to draft conditions. Planning Director said PI to DR 20 would minimally impact the General Plan.

Cadet Training Day At Santa Maria Airport Draws CAP Units
Eight Civil Air Patrol cadets from Lompoc and Vandenberg AFB joined squads from Santa Barbara Santa Maria San Luis Obispo Paso Robles and Five Cities for a full day training at Santa Maria Airport. Each cadet received a preflight check and a 30 minute orientation flight aboard five CAP aircraft piloted by senior members. Twenty sorties were flown on three triangular routes totaling 800 miles with continuous air ground radio communications testing relay of positional reports to ground crews.
