Wholesale food prices jump again in July report
The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows farm product prices up 3.2 percent in July the largest monthly rise in 17 months. Meat eggs fruits and vegetables led gains with eggs up 11.2 percent and live poultry 15.1 percent while the overall wholesale index rose 0.8 percent. Unemployment remained at 5.5 percent with 81.7 million employed and 4.7 million unemployed after seasonal adjustment.

Bail stays for two narcotics suspects in Lompoc case
Judge Terrill Cox refused to lower bail for Patrick O'Neill and Peter Silverbrand. They remain in custody on three and two counts of narcotics charges after a major drug seizure, seven ounces of high grade cocaine, the county's largest haul. The pair are due for a preliminary hearing next Tuesday.

Firefighting push to contain Ventana blaze near Big Sur
Firefighters aided by helicopters air tankers and a U2 plane launched a major effort to contain a coastal wildfire in the Ventana Wilderness near Big Sur California. The 4100 acre fire was 70 percent contained with 2 miles still out of control as 800 men worked toward full containment by nightfall. Six firefighters were injured including a concussion when a fall occurred.
