County employees cite 1969 pay gains and benefits

Association officials say 1272 workers saw wage and fringe benefit gains this year and plan to begin negotiations around November 1 for a further raise in January 1970. The 41 percent July 1 boost for the average, with many receiving 2 percent, accompanies new benefits including overtime, call back pay, vacation expansion, tuition reimbursement, uniform and meal allowances, COLA in retirement pay, higher health insurance contributions, grievance procedures, and a shortened Fire Department work week.

Local salon names new operator manager

Mrs Aimy Malone becomes operator manager of the Golden Curl Beauty Salon at 118 N H St bringing 15 years experience in San Leandro. The Golden Curl employs nine operators and is owned by Mr and Mrs Walter Wood of Lompoc. Former owners were Mr and Mrs Leon Grove and George W Fox. Fox has joined Allstate Insurance as a sales representative after training in Menlo Park and will work from the Sears Santa Maria office. Fox will handle casualty and life policies and aid groups with Allstate materials. Ray Sylvester buys the Frozen Food Center Santa Maria Food Lockers at 625 E Main St after a Safeway career including five years as store manager in Lompoc. A brush fire north of Mission Hills burned seven acres near Calle Lindero on Union Oil property.

Obituary of Lompoc Rancher Antonio Chiodi

Antonio Chiodi a Lompoc rancher since the early 1900s died yesterday at 217 N E St. He was born July 28 1886 in Como Italy and was a 25 year member of the Order of Sons of Italy of America. Rosary is tomorrow at 8 p.m. at McPeek Family Mortuary Chapel and Requiem Mass Monday at 8 a.m. at La Purisima Catholic Church. Interment will be in Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. Survivors include stepson John A Raffone Santa Maria stepsdaughter Dena Brooks Nipomo stepbrother Trinquillo Chiodi Milan Italy stepsister Celesta Pietti Como Italy and two nephews.

Pizza delivery driver robbed in Columbus
