Three Americans Freed by Hanoi From POW Status

Congress Moves to Extend 10 Percent Tax Surcharge

After six months of debate Congress ready to pass a six month extension of the 10 per cent income tax surcharge. Senate already approved the plan which would add about 5.6 billion to the Treasury from July 1 to June 30 1970. President Nixon views the surcharge as a key anti inflation tool.

Explosions devastate Noel Missouri in Ozark terror

Two blasts rocked the Noel Missouri resort town leaving one dead and about 40 injured. The 20 foot crater near a Tri State Gas depot sparked a mass evacuation as National Guardsmen patrolled to curb looting and restore order. Murder probe after girl found dead in remote area

Berkeley Woman Killed In Highway 101 Crash Near Buellton

A Berkeley woman, Carol Sue Marcus, 23, died after her car rolled off Highway 101 near Route 154. She was pinned beneath the vehicle and died at Santa Ynez Hospital at 1 20 a m. Four others were injured in three weekend Lompoc Valley incidents, including Raymond Marshall, 28, injured in a head on motorcycle collision with Robert Bravo, 18, and two women with minor injuries in a Route 246 crash.

Grand tour of planets urged by scientific panel

A NAS/NAS report directs NASA to launch unmanned probes on a grand tour of Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune and Pluto using gravity assists to reach the outer solar system. The plan, led by James Van Allen and Gordon MacDonald, could occur in the late 1970s with existing rockets and cost a fraction of current programs. Congressional and administrative approval is required, and a long term outer solar system plan is urged. Special probes must endure extreme pressures and magnetic fields.

Lompoc Council Eyes Water Line, Zoning Change, and Bids
