Garcia and Poorbaugh in collision on Walnut and M. injuries not reported. A bid issue delays bridge cleaning contract on Jalama and Santa Rosa roads. Marine Industrial Coatings bid $8874. A thief stole gems worth 3000 dollars from Amherst College museum and used a dinosaur skeleton to reach display cases on a balcony. Prof. Gerald P. Grophy confirms the thief climbed the fossil exhibit to access the jewels.

County rules assessors cannot charge El Capitan parcel work

New Judge Stevens Sworn In At Santa Barbara Courthouse
Charles S. Stevens Jr. was sworn in today as Santa Barbara County Superior Court judge in the Mural Room. Gov. Reagan named him to replace retired Judge C. Douglas Smith, who stepped down December 31. Judge Peery administered the oath, and Mrs. Muriel Johnson was approved as Stevens's secretary by the Board of Supervisors.

Thirty three Santa Barbara County FFA students from Cabrillo Cuyama Lompoc Righetti Santa Maria and Santa Ynez high schools earned Gold Certificates in Individual Farm Project Competition during a Security Pacific National Bank hosted banquet at Solvang’s Alisal Country Club. Seventeen winners and sixteen finalists were recognized for livestock crop and horticultural projects judged by Robert Van Noort and Frank Fox using the Danish System.
