Campaign chairman named for Passage of Proposition 7
Santa Barbara leader John P. Whittemore is named chairman of the Prop 7 campaign. The measure on the June 2 ballot would cut the maximum interest on general obligation bonds from 9 to 7 percent, affecting $1.3 billion in existing bonds earmarked for the Water Plan, schools, veterans loans, and parks. Whittemore argues passage is essential to complete the Water Plan and fund construction, taxes, and local facilities including Gaviota Refugio, Carpinteria, and El Presidio monuments.
