Nixon to address Watergate on national TV with transcripts

President Nixon will speak at 9 p.m. EDT on Watergate and the impeachment inquiry. He plans to offer verification of subpoenaed tape transcripts to the House Judiciary Committee and release partial transcripts while allowing Rodino and Hutchinson to listen to the actual tapes.

Kissinger Gromyko Hold Seven Hour Geneva Talks

Kissinger and Gromyko met seven hours in Geneva to seek Soviet cooperation on a Middle East peace plan and to discuss SALT limits. They split time between the Middle East and SALT with a lunch in between. Officials cited efforts to gain Soviet support ahead of Nixon’s Moscow visit in June.

County Parks holds good start for off road bike sites

Officials in Santa Barbara hosted a preliminary session to gather input from bike clubs and recreationists on locating riding sites in county areas near Lompoc Goleta and Santa Barbara. A follow up session is planned for late June or early July with bikers pushing for visible sites and funding details.

Court declines review of antipollution standards

The Supreme Court refused to hear challenges to EPA antipollution rules for new plants. The DC Circuit had ruled the standards reasonable, while utilities argued costs hinder energy self sufficiency. Separately the Court will decide if Nixon may withhold state water pollution funds. lower courts differ on presidential authority.

Lompoc girl of six killed crossing road with mother

California Highway Patrol investigated the death of six year old Ridonia Parker who was struck by a car on the Orcutt Expressway near Lakeview Road while walking with her mother and sister. Sister Tina, 14, had minor injuries. driver Donna Ingram, 19, was released after a statement. Authorities note the family may have exited their vehicle en route to Lompoc. Other incidents included a Santa Ynez man injured when struck while lying on Refugio Road and a Vandenberg Base resident injured when his car overturned on I 20 near Highway 1.

Acquittal Clears Yet More Legal Hurdles for Stans and Mitchell

In New York UPI reports John N. Mitchell and Maurice H. Stans were found innocent on all 18 charges in their conspiracy trial. Mitchell faces a Washington Watergate trial next September while Stans remains under investigation by Jaworski for possible corporate campaign contribution solicitation.
