Cancer Crusade Near End In Lompoc Fund Drive

Clean up operations for Neighbor to Neighbor of the Cancer Crusade will start this week. George Barnes Jr. says funds are about on par with last year and urges residents to mail contributions if not yet contacted. About 75 percent of kits remain out while $4,000 of a $10,000 goal is in. The 1971 Crusade theme is We Want to Wipe Out Cancer in Your Lifetime. Top Flower Festival ticket sellers and prize winners are named by John Larsson, with gifts donated by local merchants.

Scared cop wins disability retirement after 28 years service

Thomas McKittrick, a 28 year veteran San Francisco police officer, was granted 13000 in disability benefits and a lifetime monthly pension of 505 after citing overwhelming fears of death from a 5 year sequence beginning with subduing a violent patient. The decision followed a Court of Appeals ruling that the retirement board’s prior denial lacked substantial evidence and required a rehearing.

One Cent Fine Appealed in Texas Traffic Case

Dominic J. Childs III challenged a 44 mph in a 30 mph zone ticket by demanding a jury trial. The three hour trial produced a one cent minimum fine as the verdict. He filed a notice of appeal in the county court office. The incident occurred in San Antonio Texas.

Johns-Manville Title Chess Tournament set for May in Lompoc
