Board advances county media use and hangar plan

Appeal Sought On Zoning Chief For County 1970

Goleta Union School District sought county aid totaling 17600 to offset tax losses from agricultural preserves in Goleta Valley. Board of Supervisors quickly denied the request and referred the matter to county counsel for review of three state bills providing aid to districts facing revenue losses. County ties up zoning office repeal plan

The Board of Supervisors agreed to repeal the 1956 ordinance creating the county zoning administrator and instructed Herbert H. Divelbiss to draft a new measure. The move aims to clarify duties between the zoning administrator and the Planning Commission and to set routine matters under a streamlined process with a $50 fee for planning commission cases rather than $20 for administrator cases.

New Sign Ordinance Allows Billboards in Industrial Areas

The county board adopted a new sign ordinance effective in a month. It permits billboard signs in heavy industrial and commercial zones while banning them in residential light commercial and agricultural zones. Solvang retains leniency for merchants to display traditional Danish signs where conflicts occur.
